In today’s market, customers demand not only products they can configure individually, but products that are also cost-effective and readily available. To satisfy these demands, flexible and efficient manufacturing methods are required. One such method is the “SkalA” demonstration unit that offers scalable automation.

If necessary and depending on the situation, the mobile demo unit can be scaled to the automation process. The unit’s scalability is based on full decentral control of the manufacturing process, which is made possible by cyber-physical systems (CPS). The components that normally operate independently for each work step communicate with each other to control the process. The unit can be expanded via standardized interfaces to include a robot module to add an automated production component. In manual mode, workers receive support in the form of projected recommendations for each work step. For improved flexibility, both order management and service activities are supported via mobile devices.

“SkalA” is presently being exhibited at the Demo-Center of SmartFactoryKL.
